those two big trees

 My parents-in-law have a house near the beach in the north of Catalonia ,in l'Empordà. Last year, we spent a few days there on our holidays, and I drew some relaxing life sketches, just for joy.- yes, I still do that-.

I drew these magnificent Mediterranean trees- one black pine and one holm oak – that were in the house's yard. They were planted the same year my parents-in-law built the house, about 30 years ago, and they looked really impressing and big.

Too big, actually. The roots had grown so much that they had become a problem for the neighbours, so my father –in-law –a very practical man- took a clinical decision last winter: to cut them down.

My two drawings are no big thing and they are not great drawings either, actually. But now I'm happy to have done them.

Next time I come back to the house, I'll miss those two big trees.

Mes beaux parents ont une maison proche de la plage catalane, à L'Empordà. L'année passée nous sommes allés là pour y passer quelques jours de vacances et j'ai fait quelques croquis du paysage, juste pour m’amuser ( oui, je encore fais ça )

J'ai dessiné deux magnifiques arbres typiques de la méditerranée, un pin noir et une yeuse, qu'ils étaient au jardin de la maison. Ils avaient été plantés la même année de la construction de la maison, ça fait plus de 30 ans, et ils étaient formidables et grands.

Trop grands en fait. Ces racines avaient trop grandi et elles donnaient des problèmes aux voisins. Alors, mon beau père - un homme très pratique- a pris une décision radicale: les abattre.

Mes deux dessins ne sont pas un grand hommage et ils ne sont pas des grands dessins non plus, en fait. Mais maintenant je suis contentent de les avoir fait.

La prochaine fois que j'aille à la maison, ils me manqueront, ces deux grand arbres.
